About Petoskey Stones:

Petoskey Stones are fossilized coral from the species Hexagonaria percarinata. These stones, formed over 350 million years ago, are found on the beaches of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron and in rock quarries from Traverse City to Alpena. Known for their unique honeycomb patterns, Petoskey Stones are made primarily of calcite with a hardness of 4 to 5 on the Mohs scale.
